Amélie du Petit Thouars | Apocalypse https://ift.tt/7Xyp4fF Apocalypse is one of the latest screen printed poster releases from French graphic designer and printmaker Amélie du Petit Thouars. Printed in black ink on silver paper, the piece was created using a combination of different technologies; on the computer, remixed through her iPhone, and then retouched again on the computer before it was finally hand screen printed. Amélie is a graphic designer by trade, so often works for clients for whom she has to adapt her work to their needs. “My personal work is my way to really express myself and experiment as much as possible,” describes the printmaker. She often collects images that inspire her, and with her phone she plays with and remixes them using different apps on her computer before printing them. Amélie states; “I love transcribing digitally created images into analogue printed form and playing with the textures you have with screen printing, linocut or risography”. Apocalypse was born after Amélie created some doodles on her phone which resulted in a beautiful pattern; “It’s pure serendipity and randomness”. Her work is influenced by her love of artists including Adam Pendleton, Raymond Petitbon, and Christopher Wool, as well as her fascination with digital glitches which she uses to create mesmerising visuals. Currently, Amélie is working on a series of posters inspired by the Art Deco buildings of her new home town of Reims! Having just moved from Paris, she is hoping to meet other artists and create a printing/book binding studio to share and hold exhibitions. www.ameliedupetitthouars.com Shop her print collection on DEPT.STORE. L’Empressee | Osmos https://ift.tt/sd2Cgl1 Osmos is a collaboration between L’Empressee, an art gallery specialising in prints and limited editions, and brewer, Ammonite – Simon Lecomte. Julie Garcia-Dodet, the gallery’s founder, and Simon wanted to collaborate and merge their worlds by creating a series of fine art prints with an accompanying limited edition beer collection. Two French street artists were selected for the first edition; Russ and Wenc. The beers were designed according to their taste, and the prints were created in response to the artist’s feelings when tasting and after learning about Simon’s brewing method. The stunning result is composed of three very special beers and prints: One beer for Wenc, one for Russ, and one blend of the two previous casks with specially-created labels, and one print design by Russ, one by Wenc, and a collaboration of their two worlds in another larger screen print. The prints were created at the Typon Patate Studio in Dijon (Burgundy), and were released alongside the beers just before Christmas 2021. In Perpetuum | Welcome to Holbeck – Oliver London https://ift.tt/9GSAjlf (TRIGGER WARNING: CONTAINS NUDITY AND SENSITIVE SUBJECTS) The latest project to launch on our crowdfunding publishing platform, In Perpetuum, is Oliver London’s Welcome to Holbeck. From 2017 – 2019 the photographer and artist took to the streets of Holbeck, known as the UK’s first legal Red Light District, to document and capture a critical and social condition that has been causing controversy in the media and with local residents. Holbeck picked up attention back in 2016 when the BBC created a 13 part series on the area. Oliver, a local, was grasped by the way the series was presented and decided to delve in deeper to uncover the truth about the scheme. What was supposed to be a controlled and safe space for women to work was actually the complete opposite. Only months after the ‘Managed Approach’ was implemented a woman lost her life at the hands of a brutal attack. Unfortunately, this is not the first of this kind of crime in Holbeck. Oliver visited the popular streets to capture and document the conditions these women endure in a raw and unfiltered light, curating the images into a 135-page, litho-printed photo-documentary book. The findings are disturbing, uncomfortable, and eye-opening. Using media and social platforms to raise awareness, Oliver aims to shine a light on something that can, and needs to be, changed. Proceeds from every sale will go towards SWARM and Basis Yorkshire to help continue to provide support and services to indoor and street sex workers. This level of documentation provides the sex workers of Holbeck a platform to display the conditions and the truth they live in. It is important to acknowledge that sex work is real work and that we must work together in order to protect, educate, and provide safe spaces for this industry. Want to support the campaign? Alongside a copy of the book we’re also offering pre-order rewards including a pack of 3 stickers, a limited edition pin, or your name printed in the book. Check out more here. The money raised from the campaign will fund the writing and editing, alongside the design, production, printing, distribution of the book, and donations. First Edition to be published in March 2022.
