Is TikTok an Up-and-Coming Social Media Platform?: Although TikTok is still in its infancy as a commercial platform, the company has been on “a mission to educate brands and advertisers on what the app is, and find out how ad creatives want to use it.”

For the most part, brands and agencies are still figuring out what TikTok is and how they might be able to tap into it. The platform quietly began testing ads at the beginning of the year and works with directly with agencies on ad buys. While TikTok hasn’t yet released a self-serve ad platform, it announced that it has begun testing advertising features such as custom audiences, pixel tracking, and interest-based ad targeting earlier this month.

There’s been much speculation and curiosity about the staying power and marketability of the short-form mobile video app since its launch in September 2017, especially as news organizations have eagerly joined the platform and others have started using it to track viral online trends.

Twitter Tests New Desktop Redesign: In January, Twitter announced plans to roll out a new, simplified desktop redesign. The latest version of Twitter’s desktop interface began rolling out this week to “a small set of people.” It features three columns with trends and “who to follow” suggestions on the right column, the navigation menu on the left, and the timeline front and center.

While a Twitter spokesperson didn’t provide an exact date for when it will roll out more broadly, users are told to “stay tuned.”

Twitter Tests Ability to Swipe Left for Lists on Mobile: Twitter has been thinking of ways to make lists easier to access. One option currently being testing is the ability to swipe left from the main timeline to move through your custom lists on mobile. The test is available in the Twitter app for those who have opted in.

Customizable timelines that are easy to access? We’re thinking about ways to do this! One idea we had is for you to be able to swipe to your lists from home. If you’re in the test tell us what you think! pic.twitter.com/g5WMaNZ57N

Twitter Removes Precise Locations in Tweets: Twitter is eliminating the ability to share precise location details like latitude and longitude in tweets, citing that “most people don’t tag their precise location in Tweets.” The feature will still be available for photos through Twitter’s updated native camera.

Most people don’t tag their precise location in Tweets, so we’re removing this ability to simplify your Tweeting experience. You’ll still be able to tag your precise location in Tweets through our updated camera. It’s helpful when sharing on-the-ground moments.

Twitter Tests Direct Message Prompts: Twitter is testing prompts to share links via Direct Messages with the people with whom you regularly communicate. This new experimental feature is designed to help users share tweets and make connecting with other users easier.

Are there people you always DM? We’re testing a way to make it faster and easier for you to share Tweets with them. Tell us what you think if you’re part of the experiment! pic.twitter.com/AW40Xohofv
