The New Yorker’s Latest Cover Comes With A Musical Soundtrack https://ift.tt/2HXlDNd The New Yorker’s Latest Cover Comes With A Musical SoundtrackTo get people in the mood for the vernal season, the prestigious magazine's cover plays music with a click of your mouse over the illustration Spring is finally here, and illustrator Tom Gauld wants to get people in the spirit by presenting his latest cover for The New Yorker called “Soundtrack To Spring.” This is the first musical cover done for the popular magazine, not to mention an interactive one: When viewing it on the publication’s website, you can hear the cover play spring-themed music. “Soundtrack To Spring” captures in drawing the different sounds you might hear on a spring day in New York City. The illustration includes everything from a bird chirping and a person ringing a doorbell to someone walking down the street wearing headphones with a musical bubble over her head. If you go to magazine’s website to look at the cover, when you hover your mouse cursor over the music bubbles you can actually hear the music these characters are listening to. Gauld worked with fact checker and veteran chorister Fergus McIntosh to pick the music for the cover. It includes choices such as Vivaldi’s “Spring” and Beethoven’s “Spring Sonata.” There is even a folk song called “One Morning In Spring” included. The idea was to help people focus on the more pleasant sounds in the city: “People often talk about how noisy big cities are, I wanted this image to be about some of the nicer sounds you hear, especially in the springtime,” Gauld told The New Yorker.
