Gigapixel images are something we mainly see at political events or sports games. But Bentley Motors has raised the bar of advertising and used this technique to show off their Bentley Flying Spur W12 S.
Their new gigapixel photo is set in Dubai, and it allows you to explore the magnificent scene to spot their latest model of the car. But you can examine the picture further and check out what else is there, and it’s quite amusing.
Bentley has done this before, with the 53 gigapixel image of the Golden Gate Bridge. However, the new one exceeds the previous one in size, and it shows Dubai with an incredible amount of details. With 57.7 gigapixels, this is now the most detailed landscape photo in the world.
The camera was at 264 m height on the Cayan Tower. It was necessary to stitch together 1,825 photos in total to create the final image. Since Dubai is a really hot place, it took a lot of effort to create the photos, as the heat creates haze. Also, at the height of 264m, the strong wind was also a problem. Reportedly, Bentley even approached NASA in the search for the best technology to take the photos. I don’t know if this is true, but I wouldn’t be surprised. Considering how expensive their vehicles are, I’m sure their advertising budget is enough to cover it.
If you’d like to explore the interactive photo yourself, you can do it here. The goal is to spot Bentley’s latest car, but there are plenty of other stuff to explore.
