It’s the 18th Disney movie to gross over $1 billion, and, all-told, the 21 Marvel films have brought in $18.5 billion at the box office so far, according to Variety.

A Weight Loss Aid That Makes Your Stomach Full With Less Food Just Cleared the FDA http://bit.ly/2XemGi2 Overweight and obese people will soon have a new medical option to help them manage their weight. On Monday, the Boston biotech company Gelesis announced they had received clearance from the Food and Drug Administration to market their novel weight loss aid to the public, a pill-based medical device called Plenity that makes people feel full faster. Plenity is unique in several ways, according to Harry Leider, chief medical officer of Gelesis. The treatment is intended (alongside diet and exercise) for people with a body mass index as high as 40. But it’s the first FDA-approved or cleared weight loss treatment for people with a body mass index as low as 25, which is the threshold for someone being considered overweight. Historically, such treatments are only used by people considered obese, with a BMI over 30. And how it works is also different than previous weight loss aids. “What makes Plenity different and unique, primarily, is in its mechanism of action, which uses a superabsorbent hydrogel,” Leider told Gizmodo. The hydrogel material is a proprietary blend of cellulose (the building block of plants, which is commonly eaten as fiber) and citric acid that’s formed into a 3-dimensional matrix. This material, when introduced to water, can absorb up to 100 times its weight. When someone ingests Plenity with their meal, the theory goes, it’ll expand in the stomach and small intestine, leaving less room available for food and essentially convincing your body to feel full sooner than it would otherwise. “It’s not absorbed by the body either, so it works entirely by its mechanical action and leaves the body safely,” Leider added. The FDA did not immediately respond to Gizmodo’s request for comment. The major piece of evidence that secured the FDA’s clearance of Plenity was a randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled trial involving more than 400 patients with a BMI between 27 to 40. According to the trial, published online last December, patients who took Plenity for six months in conjunction with a diet and exercise regimen lost on average 6.4 percent of their baseline weight, compared to the 4.4 percent average lost by those on placebo. That’s a statistically significant, if modest, difference, but Gelesis points to the success achieved by so-called responders in the trial as a better marker of Plenity’s potential. According to the study, about 60 percent of people who took Plenity lost at least 5 percent of their body weight (an average of 22 pounds, or 3.5 inches less in waist size), while 27 percent lost 10 percent or more body weight. By contrast, the odds of achieving either goal in the placebo group was roughly half that, at 42 percent and 15 percent, respectively. These success stories were usually apparent very quickly, with more than 85 percent who lost 5 percent or more body weight by the six-month mark having lost 3 percent or more body weight by the eight-week mark. “Obesity probably isn’t just one disease, but many. So almost no treatment will work for everyone,” Leider said. “But these responders can be noticed very early on.” Classified as a Class 2 medical device, Plenity will nonetheless feel much like a typical drug for people who take it. Users will be told to swallow three capsules with a glass of water 20 to 30 minutes before lunch and dinner. Plenity will also only be available via prescription, though Gelesis COO David Pass told Gizmodo that it plans to create a telemedicine program where potential patients can be screened and prescribed Plenity remotely, in addition to prescriptions being available from their doctor’s office. The company might someday explore an over-the-counter option, but not for the immediate future. Plenity’s safety also appears to be impressive, since there was no significant difference in the amount and severity of reported individual side effects compared to placebo. (In both groups, roughly 3 percent reported serious adverse effects, though most happened in the beginning and lasted less than two weeks.) However, mild gastrointestinal symptoms, such as stomach pain or constipation, were more common overall for people who took Plenity. “We haven’t tested any larger qualities [of Plenity], but from a scientific standpoint, it should be relatively safe even if you take more,” Leider responded when Gizmodo asked about the risks of someone accidentally taking more than three capsules. “There’s only so much fluid that can be absorbed at once.” That said, the treatment will not be recommended for pregnant women, people with serious digestive issues, such as Crohn’s disease, and those with an allergy to Plenity’s ingredients, primarily citric acid and cellulose. It’ll take some time before Plenity is widely available to the public, though. The company expects to test-run a limited launch of the product by the end of 2019, with plans to have it available everywhere in the country sometime next year. Gelesis’ Pass told Gizmodo there is no concrete list price out for Plenity just yet, but added that the company is “committed to making Plenity affordable for the majority of our targeted customers, with or without insurance.” Gelesis is also pursuing clinical trial efforts to use the same hydrogel technology, slightly modified, to help treat other conditions like diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and inflammatory bowel disease. I Have, Honest to God, Lost Track of Who Is Launching What Service http://bit.ly/2UCl98B Have you heard the news? Someone is launching another goddamn service. This time, if I recall correctly, it’s Amazon. According to a report from Billboard last week, Amazon is planning to launch a new music service—its third music service, in fact, after its paid services Amazon Music Unlimited and Prime Music. Citing sources familiar with the matter, Billboard reported that the service will offer a free, limited catalog of music available through its Alexa devices. (Amazon did not immediately return a request for comment about the report.) Reader, if you have what I will refer to from here on out as Services Fatigue, you are not alone. To say that services have somewhat flooded the news cycle recently would be an extreme understatement. Apple really kicked it into high gear this year with so many freaking services that anyone would be forgiven for forgetting any or all of them. There’s Apple News+, Apple Arcade, Apple TV+, and if you count its app-powered credit card, then tack on the Apple Card as well. The Criterion Channel also recently launched a streaming service, and WarnerMedia is getting a streaming service as well that will reportedly compete with Netflix. Let us not forget about T-Mobile’s TV service with the unfortunate name TVision Home. And Google also recently announced its new gaming service Stadia. Most recently, we learned of the Netflix competitor Disney+, a mammoth service that will offer Pixar, Star Wars, Marvel, National Geographic, and of course Disney programs all in one place for $7. It may also be bundled with ESPN+ and Hulu services at a discounted rate—arguably another service option entirely! Now, in its thinly veiled attempt to overthrow basically every market under the Sun, Amazon has introduced another into this mix. All this is to say, there are too many damn services. In fact, this ad-supported music streaming service is a lot like Amazon’s ad-supported video streaming service that it launched in January to compliment Prime. Brands: Please, no more. We’re sorry for complaining. The cord is now cut. That’s enough, thanks. Digital Trends via Gizmodo https://gizmodo.com April 15, 2019 at 05:33PM

Science fiction author Gene Wolfe has died https://tcrn.ch/2Zexb6Q Gene Wolfe, author of “The Book of the New Sun” and other acclaimed works of science fiction and fantasy, died Sunday at the age of 87. According to Locus, his death came after a long struggle with heart disease. While Wolfe was never quite as famous as some of his peers, his writing was loved intensely by his fans. Ursula Le Guin, for example, called him “our Melville,” while Michael Swanwick described him as “the greatest writer in the English language alive today.” That level of praise (and comparisons between his best-known work and James Joyce’s “Ulysses”) might seem hyperbolic — unless you’ve actually read his best novels and stories. To some, Wolfe’s writing represents science fiction’s strongest claim toward creating capital-L Literature. The four-volume “Book of the New Sun,” published between 1980 and 1983, remains his best-known single work. It tells the story of Severian, a wandering torturer on Earth (“Urth”), billions of years in the future. The writing in “New Sun” is evocative and tricky, with an unreliable narrator obliquely explaining Wolfe’s far-future setting. Wolfe’s reputation for density and difficulty may have scared some readers away, but it’s also encouraged careful rereading and enthusiastic exegesis from his most devoted readers. And this reputation undersells the pleasure of Wolfe’s writing. Decoding his best stories is fun, just as it’s fun to explore the vast city of Nessus in “The Shadow of the Torturer.” He could also use that talent for subtlety to craft an unsettling horror story like “The Tree Is My Hat,” or an equally unsettling character study like “The Death of Doctor Island.” (The reason why Wolfe wrote the latter story, and the similarly titled “The Doctor of Death Island” and “Death of the Island Doctor,” is one of my favorite bits of science fiction trivia.) And then there’s “Forlesen,” a surreal afterlife fantasy that somehow compresses an entire lifetime of office drudgery into a single day. In the end, the titular character asks, “I want to know if it’s meant anything. If what I’ve suffered — if it’s been worth it.” The answer? “No. Yes. No. Yes. Yes. No. Yes. Yes. Maybe.” Digital Trends via TechCrunch https://techcrunch.com April 15, 2019 at 05:31PM

Forza Street is the newly adopted name of free-to-play racer Miami Street http://bit.ly/2IyfadH Microsoft’s exclusive racing franchise is shifting to another gear. Joining Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon, free-to-play game Forza Street is bringing another way to race on PC and mobile gaming platforms. After a few leaks teased its existence, Microsoft released the official announcement trailer and the game is available right now on PC. The gameplay itself is not that of an actual racing game, at least not in this first entry in the series. The game focuses on an experience that is optimized for mobile gaming and all that you must do in a race is speed up or slow down as the car runs on autopilot. You press the left mouse button for gas and release at specific sections so that your car can turn a corner. The right mouse button utilizes a nitro boost that builds up throughout the race. It’s an incredibly simple concept with impressive visuals that could be fun for some mobile gamers. Those jumping into Forza Street will notice that the current version of the game is 23.0.6 and includes a collection of updates and fixes. That is because Forza Street is the new name for existing racing game Miami Street, which launched in 2018. This may stifle some of the immediate excitement, but this does give the Forza franchise another series to develop over time. Forza Street features an endless story that is enhanced with weekly new content, including challenges and events. Because it has already been available for a year, Forza Street comes with a solid collection of content. It has a roster of cars that has expanded since launch, a great deal of optimization in place, and more. It seems like a typical free-to-play gameplay loop with loot box content, but we’ll have to wait and see if any changes are made to the game with the newly added Forza name. Windows 10 gamers can grab Forza Street now and it will be coming to iOS and Android in the near future. There’s no confirmation of an Xbox One version of the game, but there’s plenty Forza racing that can be done using the Xbox Game Pass subscription, including the latest entry in the Horizon series.

Would you buy the Tarok compact pickup truck? Volkswagen wants to know http://bit.ly/2UCh8Rz Volkswagen won’t stop teasing the possibility of a pickup truck for the United States market . The German automaker will bring its Tarok pickup truck concept to the 2019 New York Auto Show this weekend. The Tarok was unveiled at the Sao Paulo Auto Show in Brazil in late 2018, but VW said it’s showing the truck in New York to “gauge market reaction for a truly versatile and compact entry-level pickup.” This is the second year in a row that Volkswagen will bring a pickup truck concept to the New York Auto Show. In 2018, it unveiled the Atlas-based Tanoak concept in the Big Apple. At the time, Volkswagen executives said no decision had been made on a production pickup for the U.S., and it doesn’t seem like the automaker is any closer to making a decision. A production version of the Tarok is expected to launch soon in South America, but Volkswagen said there are “no plans” for a U.S.-market version. The concept will be shown in New York just to see how people react to the idea of a VW pickup truck. It’s unclear if the Tarok would work in the U.S., anyway. It’s based on the same MQB platform as the Atlas-based Tanoak concept, but is smaller than that truck. While the Tanoak was close in size to midsize trucks like the Ford Ranger and Jeep Gladiator, the Tarok is a compact truck of the kind that hasn’t been sold in the U.S. in years. At 47.5 inches, the bed is shorter than that of any pickup truck currently sold in the U.S. However, opening a pass-through to the cabin and folding down the rear seats adds 25.8 inches of bed length. Volkswagen borrowed that trick from the long-defunct Chevrolet Avalanche. Payload capacity was quoted at 2,271 pounds, but Volkswagen didn’t quote towing capacity. The Tarok concept is powered by a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Producing just 147 horsepower, it doesn’t come close to matching the engines of other U.S.-market trucks. The engine is connected to a six-speed automatic transmission with all-wheel drive. The all-wheel drive system includes multiple driver-programmable modes, including an off-road mode. Inside, the truck features a 9.2-inch infotainment screen and a reconfigurable digital gauge cluster. The appearance of the Tarok concept at the 2019 New York Auto Show indicates that VW is leaning toward bringing a pickup truck to the U.S., but it’s hard to tell what kind of truck we might get. The Tarok is likely too small, unless Ford follows through with rumored plans to bring a smaller truck here, which would create a new market niche. A wide-ranging deal between Volkswagen and Ford will produce a VW-badged pickup based on the next-generation Ranger, but that model may be reserved for foreign markets. Meanwhile, Volkswagen will bring a second concept vehicle, the Atlas Basecamp, to New York.

Hulu buys back AT&T’s minority stake in streaming service now valued at $15 billion https://tcrn.ch/2v36unQ Hulu has paid $1.43 billion to buy AT&T’s minority stake in the streaming video company. The companies announced Monday that the transaction valued Hulu at $15 billion. As a result, AT&T’s 9.5 percent stake in Hulu was worth $1.43 billion. The valuation is two-thirds higher than last November when Disney reported in a regulatory filing that the streaming video company was worth $9.26 billion. Hulu is owned through by Hulu LLC, a joint venture of Disney and Comcast. Disney now has a 67 percent ownership of Hulu, which it gained, in part, through its $71 billion acquisition of 21st Century Fox. Comcast has a 33 percent stake in Hulu. AT&T, which has been hinting about selling its minority stake in Hulu since November, will use proceeds from this transaction, along with additional planned sales of non-core assets, to reduce its debt. “We thank AT&T for their support and investment over the past two years and look forward to collaboration in the future. WarnerMedia will remain a valued partner to Hulu for years to come as we offer customers the best of TV, live and on demand, all in one place,” Hulu CEO Randy Freer said in statement. AT&T acquired the 9.5 percent percent stake in the service by way of WarnerMedia, as a result of its Time Warner acquisition. AT&T and Hulu were increasingly looking like competitors, not partners. AT&T has its own streaming services, including cord-cutter friendly live TV service DirecTV Now, more lightweight WatchTV and another upcoming direct-to-consumer service that will launch later this year and leverages its WarnerMedia properties. This new AT&T streaming service. which will work across devices, will launch into beta in Q4 2019, AT&T has said. The service is expected to expand over time to include third-party content through partnerships. Digital Trends via TechCrunch https://techcrunch.com April 15, 2019 at 05:28PM

AT&T Uses Supercomputer to Map Out How Climate Change Will Destroy Its Networks http://bit.ly/2v3xofe Rising sea levels can submerge the backbone of the internet, increasingly powerful storms can destroy the cell networks phones need to work, and high-intensity winds can tear down the critical infrastructure that makes 21st century America go. Anticipating accelerating climate change-fueled disasters in the coming decades, telecommunications giant AT&T recently partnered with Argonne National Labs to build a three-decade model called a “Climate Change Analysis Tool” to help forecast the devastating impact of climate change on the company’s infrastructure and business on a level that details down to the individual neighborhood. Extreme weather that results from climate change has a direct impact on the bottom line of giant companies like AT&T when physical infrastructure is destroyed. In the last three years, AT&T has spent $847 billion on disaster recovery according to Fast Company. While casting doubt on climate change has become a mostly right-wing politically polarizing tactic around the western world, the global scientific consensus has long been that human activity is driving climate change. It’s not a theoretical idea: 2018 was the fourth-warmest year on record. The five warmest years ever have been the last five years. Eighteen of the 19 warmest years ever have occurred since 2001. Climate change is real and it’s here now. President Donald Trump has staked out a position as a climate change denier who, most recently, disbanded a group studying how climate change will impact the U.S. economy and risk American lives. While Trump and a global band of right wing grifters use climate change as a political play thing, the president’s own Pentagon treats climate change as a national security threat and many of the country’s biggest companies are trying to figure out how to deal with how the increasingly extreme weather will hit their wallets. AT&T, the world’s biggest telecom company, recently released a report titled “Road to Climate Resiliency” showing total damage to American infrastructure in 2017 added up to $306 billion, the worst year ever. “The impacts of these types of events are only getting worse,” said Thomas Wall, a senior infrastructure and preparedness analyst at Argonne. “In 2017, in the United States, we saw 16 events that cost $1 billion in losses or more. Around the world, it was 29 events. This is a significant increase over previous decades.” The result is models and maps that outline potential disasters resulting from extreme weather and its consequences like flooding and high winds focusing in particular on the southeastern United States, a region regularly pummeled by extreme weather. Argonne’s climate modeling data and mapping tools let AT&T look decades into the future of impending extreme weather and climate change-fueled events like sea-level rise. The extreme weather is already here, now it’s a question of preparation. A 2018 study found that over 4,000 miles of fiber optic cable buried along American coastline could be underwater by 2033, a number that will call into question internet access in coastal cities from New York to Miami. The study warns that a 50-year storm in the southeast could mean 14 feet deep flooding in Georgia and South Carolina and wind speeds of 90 miles per hour across Southern Florida. Here’s a map from the collaboration: The simulations were done on supercomputers like Argonne’s Theta computer which was previously used to map brain neurons and peering into particle physics. Theta is an 11.69 petaflop system, a measurement of speed that makes it one of the fastest machines on earth. “Without supercomputers and the ability to do a lot of simulations very quickly, we really couldn’t do any of this work,” Wall said. Here’s a video from Argonne laying out their work to prepare for future extreme weather as a result of climate change:

This Brief Moment in the Game of Thrones Premiere Carried the Most Narrative Weight http://bit.ly/2VMZTJK The season eight premiere of Game of Thrones was a barrage of shocking reunions and reveals. It also showed Bran staring creepily at people. His face may have inspired a lot of memes, but one of his meetings was actually a big deal. Allow us to explain why Bran’s final reunion of the episode, while the shortest, ended up being the most powerful one of all. “Winterfell” can be summed up in two words: reunions and parallels. Characters came together—often to share information we need to get through the rest of the series—in ways that also brought their journeys full circle. For example, Jon Snow found out about his true parentage next to the statue of Ned Stark, indirectly fulfilling Ned’s promise that he would one day tell Jon the truth about his mother. Another one, while brief, was just as significant. That was the reunion between Jaime Lannister and Brandon Stark. Bran and Jaime only shared one scene together in the entire series before “Winterfell,” way back in the first episode. At the end of “Winter Is Coming,” Bran caught siblings Jaime and Cersei having sex, and Jaime responded by pushing Bran out the window. It’s a moment that changed both of their lives forever. And since then, these two very different characters—who’ve never laid eyes on each other since that fateful day—have been on different versions of a similar path. They’re noblemen who’ve had to move past their family legacies to find out who they really are. Similar to how they met the first time around, this reunion scene happens at the end of the episode. Jaime has arrived in Winterfell, after choosing to leave Queen Cersei to fight for the North. After everything he’s been through over the course of the series, he doesn’t want to see himself as a Lannister anymore. His hair is noticeably darker, and he even covered up his golden hand in the season seven finale—not only because he needed a disguise, but also because it was Lannister gold. We’re seeing a totally different man than the one from the beginning of the show, the sexy Kingsguard who hurled a child out a window. That push was actually one of the most important events of the series. Along with the poisoning of Jon Arryn, the former Hand of the King, Bran getting thrown out the window jump-started the War of the Five Kings. That war caused Jaime to lose everything. His children, his father, his hand, and the woman he loves. The only thing he had left was his honor, something it’s taken him years to regain...and not just because of his reputation as a Kingslayer. He’s had to work really hard to try and redeem himself for all he’s done, but it’s hard to when your past is literally staring you in the face. “I think he knows Bran didn’t die, but he doesn’t expect to meet him,” Nikolaj Coster-Waldau told Entertainment Weekly. “[His mission] goes from: ‘I know my brother Tyrion is there and I’m going to fight the good fight’ to ‘I’m in deep shit now.’ Because this is the Lord of Winterfell that I tried to kill, and I’m sure he wants revenge. That’s what Jaime expects.” But that’s not the reason Bran was waiting for him. For most of this episode, Bran just shows up in the background—like a dragon trying to cock-block its mother’s boyfriend (oh yeah, that happened). He’s there to be an exposition dump and tell people to do things. In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Isaac Hempstead Wright said that, as an actor, he was thrilled to have Bran reunite with Jaime Lannister—but as the character, he doesn’t think Bran cared all that much. “In a sense, it’s just so irrelevant to Bran, really. His sole focus is that he wants the living to survive,” Hempstead Wright said. “He’s so far beyond any petty squabbling or wanting to get revenge or a comeuppance on someone. He doesn’t view the world like that anymore.” While I agree that Bran isn’t waiting there to get revenge, which would be Jaime’s fear, I do feel he cares about seeing Jaime again. And the scene supports it. When you look at parallels, a common theme in the episode, this scene has two significant ones. Not only is this scene at the very end of the episode, mirroring the first (and only) time these two have seen each other, but “Winterfell” starts with a shot of a little boy climbing. Setting the stage. The scene is also shot exactly like an earlier one from this episode, where Bran ordered Samwell to talk to Jon about his parentage. At the time, he told Sam he wanted to stay and wait “for an old friend.” But unlike that moment, there’s nothing to tell Jaime here. So then why is Bran waiting for Jaime, his “old friend,” to show up? Because Bran Stark is there...for Bran Stark. Like Jaime, Bran’s been on a journey to find out who he really is—even if Jaime’s has been about rediscovering his identity, and Bran’s has focused on stripping his identity away entirely. He was paralyzed, lost his mom, traveled Beyond the Wall, and became the Three-Eyed Raven. He’s so disconnected now, he doesn’t even see himself as a Stark anymore. But if we’ve learned anything from Sansa, Arya, and Jon—you can never stop being a Stark, no matter how hard you try. This scene is the one time, maybe the only time for the rest of the series, that we’re seeing Bran let himself be a Stark again. Even if it’s for just a second. Jaime is Bran’s connection to who he used to be, a little boy who lost himself and found a completely new path when he got pushed out a window. In a sense, Bran Stark did actually die that day, to be reborn as someone new. They changed each other’s lives, even if they were only together for a brief moment. And this meeting—which has been a long time coming—is a reminder of everything both of them have sacrificed to get where they are today. It shows how connected they are, as noblemen who’ve forgone their names, titles, and fates for a higher purpose, but can never fully let go of the past. This reunion may not be the biggest we’ve seen on the series, and it won’t change the game of thrones, but it’s one that carries the weight of a very big world. The 10 Best Deals of April 15, 2019 http://bit.ly/2PfeviD
Best Deals of the DayThe best deals from around the web, updated daily.
We see a lot of deals around the web over on Kinja Deals, but these were our ten favorites today. Head over to our main post for more deals, and follow us on Twitter and Facebook to never miss a chance to save. You can also join our Kinja Deals Community Facebook group to connect with your fellow deal hunters. #1 sandisk saleThereâs no such thing as owning too much flash storage, and you can stock up on flash drives, SD cards, and more from Amazonâs latest Gold Box. I suspect that the most popular items here will be the high-capacity microSD cards, which are great for the action cams and Nintendo Switches you all are buying at this time of year. You canât beat 256GB for $31. Literally, that price has never been beaten. The sale also includes a number of flash drives, including some with Lightning and microUSB. Thereâs also a 1TB NVMe drive, a CF card, and a network-attached storage drive. And finally, the Gold Box is rounded out with a 1TB portable SSD on sale for $250. There are still some deals that we didnât mention here though, so be sure to head over to Amazon to see them all. #2 instant pot miniIf you donât own a pressure cooker, todayâs a great day to fix that. The apartment-friendly 3 qt. Instant Pot Mini wants a permanent home on your kitchen counter, and itâs down to $60 today, a $20 discount. While Instant Pots are best known for cooking foods quickly, theyâre also our readersâ favorite slow cooker, and a damn good rice cooker too. Basically itâs one of the most versatile kitchen gadgets you can own, and this model is great if youâre nervous about it taking up precious cabinet and counter space. #3 ring security systemVideo doorbell or standard security cameras? Camera-based or traditional security system? Whatever your home protection preferences, you can get a great deal on the setup of your choice today. Amazonâs discounting nearly all of its Ring products (save for the smallest accessories) right now, including two different video doorbells (the Ring 2 is battery-powered, while the Pro hooks into your doorbell wiring), a full home security starter kit (with a free Echo Dot), and various cameras, including the Floodlight and Spotlight cams, and first deal weâve seen on the Stick-Up Cam, in both wired and battery forms. And in true Amazon fashion, they all come with free Echo Dots. #4 bowflexBowflexâs SelectTech adjustable dumbbells have been a hit with our readers for years, but Amazon has never flexed its discount muscles on them quite like this before. For a limited time, $299 gets you the dumbbells and a $229 Bowflex adjustable weight bench. The dumbbells typically sell for $299 by themselves, and even their best discounts donât really compare to the value youâll get from this bundle, assuming you donât already have a good weight bench. #5 switch bundleWalmartâs letting you build your own Nintendo Switch bundle for just $330. Hereâs what youâll get: If youâve been putting off buying a Switch... well, dude. I mean, come on. The last time we saw this kind of bundle, it included a backpack in lieu of a USB-C dongle. But hereâs where it gets a little tricky. While the dongle includes an HDMI port, I donât think youâll be able to use it as a mobile dock, like the one included with the Switch. The Switch is notoriously selective on what devices itâll output video through, so *shrug* buy this for the extra ports, but not the HDMI. #6 anker powerportI struggle to remember a time that a single-port USB charger generated as much buzz as Ankerâs PowerPort Atom PD 1. The tiny, 30W USB-C GaN charger was almost constantly sold out when it came out earlier this year, but now itâs on sale for the first time ever. $25 is about $5 less than usual, and about half of what Apple chargers for a much larger charger with the exact same power output. #7 dockersToday only, Amazonâs discounting Dockers khakis, shirts, jackets, and accessories to help you freshen up your wardrobe for the spring. Just note that this is a Gold Box, so these prices will only stick around for a day. So if your work gear has more than a few holes or slightly-noticeable pizza stains, donât wait. #8 spider-man for ps4Marvelâs Spider-Man features all the web-slinging fun you could want in an open world Spider-Man game, and itâs back down to $30 today on Amazon, an all-time low. And yes, it has the Sam Raimi suit now. #9 morphe paletteEyeshadow palettes are pretty much always a worthwhile buyâwho wants to mess around with individual eyeshadows anyway?âbut this Morphe blowout is a particularly rare find. The Morphe Cosmetics 35-Color Nature Glow Eyeshadow Palette (35OM) is currently up for grabs at Ulta for $15. (The palette normally goes for $24.) And not only are you getting a plethora of shadow options, but youâll get a ton of use out of each and every one of them. All the shades are ultra wearable warm-toned neutrals in either a matte or shimmer finish, perfect for every day makeup artistry. #10 refurb breville espresso machineThereâs nothing better than a latte to start the morning and the Barista Express has been on my to-buy list for a long time, and Wootâs sellinga refurb unit for $360. This particular model includes a built-in grinder, and dispenses the perfect amount for each shot, making it pretty much idiot proof. This price, while super low compared to all of the sales weâve seen previously, is still pretty steep. But, if you spend a ton on your morning espresso at Starbucks, this could very well be a cost-saving purchase. Digital Trends via Gizmodo https://gizmodo.com April 15, 2019 at 04:51PM

Captain Marvel becomes the latest Marvel film to bring in $1 billion for Disney https://ift.tt/2VoPvrI Captain Marvel has crossed the $1 billion mark in worldwide ticket sales, according to a report in Variety. It’s the seventh movie based on Marvel Comics’ intellectual property to hit that milestone, indicating that Disney may be the house that Mickey Mouse built, Marvel’s comic empire is adding a few more stories. Captain Marvel’s success also underscores the notion that superheroines can perform just as well at the box office as their male counterparts. It’s also a blow to the online trolls who sought to derail the movie early on with a concerted effort to post negative reviews and drive down audience ratings for the film upon its release.
