ESPN found a clever way to show restricted highlights of the World Cup final — with LEGOs https://ift.tt/2uFWArs Photo courtesy of ESPN ESPN did not have rights to the 2018 World Cup, or even to the highlights, thanks to a massive bid from Fox Sports. But the network still found a way to depict the highlights of what was a thrilling World Cup final on its website, using LEGOs. The network's highlight reel depicts four of the six total goals scored in the final, as well as, humorously, the match official going to video assistant referee to decide on a penalty. As for Fox Sports, hosting the World Cup in full on television has not won the network much good will.

Tesla's US website isn't allowing customers to order the Model 3 (TSLA) https://ift.tt/2uFWxfg Hollis Johnson/Business Insider
"Designed to attain the highest safety ratings in every category, Model 3 achieves 220 miles of range while starting at only $35,000 before incentives. Model 3 deliveries are beginning in the US based on whether you are an employee, if you own a Tesla, and when you placed your reservation, and will continue by country." Next to the message is an image of a blue Model 3. The page contains no other information about the vehicle or any prompts that lead to other pages. A Tesla representative said she was looking into the matter. The Model 3 is Tesla's first mass-market vehicle, designed to broaden the company's customer base beyond the luxury segment and increase the rate of electric vehicle adoption. But Tesla struggled to ramp up production after it was launched in July 2017 due to excessive automation at its factories. In May 2016, Musk said he estimated the company would make 100,000 to 200,000 Model 3s during the second half of 2017. Tesla made 2,685 Model 3 vehicles in 2017. Tesla The company twice missed its self-imposed deadline to produce 5,000 Model 3s in a week, but hit that rate at the end of June. On July 2, the company said it had made 5,031 Model 3s during the final week of June and 28,578 during the second quarter, more than it had made in the prior three quarters combined. Last week, Tesla started allowing all customers to configure and order the Model 3, though the $35,000 base model is not yet available. In late June, a Tesla representative told Business Insider it would be available in six to nine months for those who had already made reservations. That's longer than a timeline given by CEO Elon Musk in May, when he said the $35,000 option could become available between September and December. 'We agree': Russian foreign ministry approves of Trump's tweet slamming the US for its 'foolishness' toward Russia https://ift.tt/2JsZi94 Kevin Lamarque/Reuters
The Russian foreign ministry on Monday expressed approval for a tweet from President Donald Trump that blamed the US for the poor state of US-Russia relations. "Our relationship with Russia has NEVER been worse thanks to many years of U.S. foolishness and stupidity and now, the Rigged Witch Hunt!" Trump tweeted. Subsequently, the Russian foreign ministry's official account liked Trump's tweet and retweeted it. "We agree," it said. Russian President Vladimir Putin's government has frequently blamed the poor state of US-Russia relations on US government policy and actions from the Obama administration — in particular downplaying or denying incendiary actions like interfering in the 2016 US presidential election, its role in the Syria conflict, and its annexation of Crimea in 2014. This interaction gained attention on Twitter, with critics slamming Trump for seeming to side with a foreign power over the country he leads.Trump's tweet came shortly before he met with Putin in Helsinki, Finland.Trump's meeting with Putin occurred just days after Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein announced the indictment of 12 Russian intelligence officers as part of the special counsel Robert Mueller's probe. Trump has been under pressure to address Russian election interference with Putin, which he pledged to do ahead of their meeting. But critics remain skeptical about Trump's relationship with Putin and some members of Congress, on both sides of the aisle, called for the president to cancel his meeting with the Russian leader after the indictment last week. As Trump greeted Putin on Monday, he said, "I think we will end up having an extraordinary relationship." The meeting with Putin comes on the heels of a NATO summit in Brussels, where Trump drew criticism for insulting US allies, as well as an at-times awkward visit to the UK in which Trump was met with nationwide protests. The EU head hits back at Trump calling them a 'foe': 'Whoever says we are foes is spreading fake news.' https://ift.tt/2Nk0yxF Jack Taylor/Getty Images
European Council President Donald Tusk hit back after President Donald Trump called the European Union a "foe" of the United States in an interview that aired Sunday. In a Sunday tweet, Tusk said the US and the EU are "best friends" and borrowed one of Trump's most-used phrases, calling any other description of their relationship "fake news." When "CBS Evening News" anchor Jeff Glor asked Trump in an interview taped in Scotland Saturday who is his "biggest foe globally right now", Trump named the European Union, members of which are some of America's oldest and closest global allies. "I think we have a lot of foes," Trump said. "I think the European Union is a foe, what they do to us in trade. Now, you wouldn't think of the European Union, but they're a foe." Trump also identified Russia and China as "foes", countries with which the US is grappling with recent indictments in a federal investigation into US presidential election interference and an escalating trade war, respectively. His comments came on the heels of a tense UK tour and just before a one-on-one meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump also publicly bashed the EU on Twitter on his way to Brussels for the 2018 NATO Summit, which Tusk answered with a direct public statement. "Appreciate your allies." Tusk said. "After all, you don't have that many." NOW WATCH: North Korean defector: Kim Jong Un 'is a terrorist' See Also:

Amazon's Prime Day is set to be $1.2 billion bigger than last year, analyst says (AMZN) https://ift.tt/2NXUFrk AP/Joseph Nair
Amazon is set to rake in $3.6 billion in sales this Prime Day — a full $1.2 billion more than last year, one analyst predicts. Daniel Ives, the head of technology research at the market-research analytics firm GBH Insights, says the uptick is caused in part by the sale's lasting 36 hours this year — up from 24 previously — and also by how heavily Amazon has pushed discounts, especially on Alexa products. "There's a much broader push this year, from discounts, to the type of inventory, and Amazon's marketing push as well," Ives said in an interview. "When you think about Alexa, smart speakers, and smart home products, it's really becoming more and more essentially to the consumer. Discounts on Echo and other Alexa products today are really just the tip of the iceberg." Ives estimates Alexa — Amazon's name for the digital voice assistant that powers products like its Echo smart speaker — to be a $1 billion opportunity over the next three years. Many of those devices are on sale for up to half-off as Prime Day gets set to kick off at 3 p.m. on Monday. As a whole, the Prime offering is one of the fastest-growing segments for Amazon's bread-and-butter retail business. In April, Amazon said Prime had over 100 million subscribers — the first time a number was released for the program — assumably up from the previously disclosed "tens of millions" the company previously touted. Ives estimates subscriptions are growing 30% to 40% per year. "The most important part of Prime Day is to drive the Amazon brand and further expand its competitive moat," said Ives, who has a $2,000 price target for shares of the company. "If you look at membership over the last few years, it's grown significantly more than expectations. It's just another ingredient in that recipe for success." Shares of Amazon have gained 54% since the beginning of the year, hitting an all-time high of $1,7.21 on Monday morning. Banks should focus on mobile banking engagement (JPM, WFC) https://ift.tt/2JxiJ0Q This story was delivered to Business Insider Intelligence "Payments Briefing" subscribers hours before appearing on Business Insider. To be the first to know, please click here. JPMorgan Chase and Wells Fargo announced their Q2 2018 earnings on Friday, which echo the trend of ongoing but decelerating growth in mobile banking as the market matures. BI Intelligence
This slowdown is likely because of saturation in the digital banking market. Eighty-three percent of consumers use mobile banking, making it nearly ubiquitous, according to Business Insider Intelligence's Mobile Banking Competitive Edge Report (enterprise only). That saturation, not a decline in interest, is causing firms to add digital customers at a slower rate; they're seeing customers new to banks rather than those new to mobile offerings. So banks should focus on new ways to engage their users; They should pursue other avenues of growth to onboard new customers. This deceleration suggests that banks should launch other growth initiatives that cater to an audience that hasn't adopted their primary platforms. For example, Chase just announced the rollout of its all-digital bank offering, Finn, which could help it target a younger audience; 67% of millennials use mobile banking but may be looking for a less expensive alternative to traditional banks that doesn’t charge high fees or require monthly minimums, according to USA Today. Leveraging their platforms can help increase customer loyalty. Shifting their approach from onboarding a high volume of new customers to bolstering engagement among existing customers can ultimately lead to stronger customer loyalty. Firms should use their digital channels as relationship-building platforms by offering value-added services, such as peer-to-peer (P2P) transfer functionality and card controls. Sixty-three percent of consumers view the ability to send P2P payments as an important or extremely important factor in bank selection, per our Mobile Banking Competitive Report, so adding this feature among others could keep users from looking to third-party platforms. That will open a larger opportunity for these firms to upsell customers on more lucrative services, like credit cards and mortgages, which can ultimately increase their lifetime customer value and allow banks to get the most value out of their digital platforms. Hollywood stars are praising Sacha Baron Cohen's shocking new show 'Who Is America?' as 'essential' and 'mind-blowing' https://ift.tt/2Js6vGw Showtime
Sacha Baron Cohen has duped and angered a handful of notable politicians, like Sarah Palin and Joe Walsh, for his new Showtime series "Who Is America?" that premiered on Sunday. But Hollywood stars are loving it. Celebrities like Jimmy Kimmel, Jordan Peele, Russell Crowe, and Mindy Kaling applauded the show on Twitter for being a "must watch" and "essential" viewing. The show follows Cohen — who's also known for "Borat," "Bruno," and "Da Ali G Show" — as he takes on multiple different personas in an effort to shine satirical light on the age of Trump and intense partisan divide. One segment even sees Cohen as a fake Israeli "anti-terror expert" trick several current and former politicians, including Walsh, into supporting arming toddlers with guns. Another shows him trying to convince Bernie Sanders of a nonsensical plan to make everyone the 1%. Below are celebrity reactions to the show: "Who Is America?" airs on Showtime on Sundays at 10 p.m. ET. NOW WATCH: Why the World Cup soccer ball looks so different See Also:

Papa John's controversial founder is being kicked out of the chain's office after saying the N-word during a conference call (PZZA) https://ift.tt/2JskdJn Jason Merrit/Getty
In under a week, John Schnatter has gone from being the face of Papa John's to being its biggest downfall. Schnatter, Papa John's founder and former CEO, stepped down as chairman of the company on July 11 after he admitted to using the N-word in a company conference call in May, which was first reported by Forbes. "News reports attributing the use of inappropriate and hurtful language to me during a media training session regarding race are true," Schnatter said in a statement. "Regardless of the context, I apologize. Simply stated, racism has no place in our society." Since then, Papa John's has removed Schnatter's face from the company's logo and marketing materials. Now, it has booted him out of its office completely. In a statement released to the press on Sunday, the company announced that it had launched a special committee to deal with the fallout. The committee agreed to terminate Schnatter's sublease in the Papa John's office, which he used while serving as the company's chairman. "Since Mr. Schnatter no longer has an active role with the management of company's business, the special committee directed the company to terminate a sublease agreement granting Mr. Schnatter the right to use certain office space at the company's corporate headquarters in Louisville, Kentucky," Papa John's said in the statement. Schnatter has long attracted controversy, in large part because of his political viewpoints. While he was the company's CEO, his statements about the NFL dragged Papa John's into the middle of a polarizing debate, garnering backlash on the left and support on the right. Papa John's announced in late December that Schnatter was stepping down as CEO and would be replaced by Steve Ritchie. Schnatter also came under fire in 2012 for saying the Affordable Care Act could be "lose-lose" for Papa John's franchisees and employees. The backlash was swift, with many promising to boycott Papa John's in response to Schnatter's comments. Schnatter also donated $1,000 to Donald Trump's presidential campaign, though he did not publicly express support for him. NOW WATCH: Why this cactus is listed for $250,000 See Also:

Having managed Beyoncé and Destiny's Child for more than two decades, Knowles describes their evolution as music artists from their teenage years through to adulthood: "I started managing Beyoncé and Destiny's Child [then known as Girls Tyme] when they were about 14. At that age, they could only be involved in the music and creativity side of things." Despite their youth, their aptitude for all-round musical development was clear. "The girls were keen to learn more about their craft. They worked with great songwriters, producers and choreographers, so they could quickly develop the skills involved," says Knowles. Decades later, Beyoncé still maintains a hands-on approach with her crew. "Beyoncé is very detail-oriented," Knowles says. "She gets involved in all aspects of the production – from the lighting and sound teams to working with the band, dancers and choreographers." Frank Micelotta/Getty Images According to him, as agreeable as Beyoncé is to work with, her standards are non-negotiable: "She expects perfection – from herself and her team." While Beyoncé apparently does not exercise her right as a diva for outrageous requests, she does have one tradition she sticks to before every show: "Just before Beyoncé gets onstage, everyone involved in the performance – from the dancers, choreographers and band members to the staff and crew – forms a circle and says a prayer." "It's a spiritual practice, which is very important to Beyoncé," Knowles says. (Incidentally, the name Destiny's Child was taken from a passage in the Biblical Book of Isaiah.) Balancing Beyoncé's interests – as a person and a "product" – proved especially challenging as a father-manager, Knowles said. "It wasn't easy ... Fortunately, my ex-wife [Tina Knowles] and I used to own a hair salon. So, I had the opportunity to work with relatives before but, with your children, you have to wear two different hats – a business hat and a parental hat. "As a manager, I had a fiduciary duty to treat all the members' careers the same. Sometimes, this wasn't necessarily what was best for Beyoncé. So, there have certainly been lows – they come with the business – but there have been so many more mountains that make up for the valleys." Knowles now publishes self-help books (like his first work, The DNA of Achievers) and memoirs (such as his second outing, Racism: From the Eyes of a Child). With a revealing new book about Destiny's Child on the horizon, there's more to come from the music mogul. Previously an editor at the Reuters news agency, Kieron Johnson is the founder and CEO of Regal Content, a creative content consultancy. He is also a contributor to Forbes and Fortune magazine. In 2017, LinkedIn recognized him as one of its "top voices." NOW WATCH: Why the World Cup soccer ball looks so different See Also:

For This Entrepreneur, No Mistake Is Not Worth Making https://ift.tt/2uqlcFo In this video, John Suh, the founder of LegalZoom, talks with Entrepreneur Network partner Business Rockstars about how entrepreneurs are just like many people -- they want to solve problems. The difference for him and other entrepreneurs is the pain he feels from unsolved problems. If he could give his younger self advice, he would not change a thing. Making mistakes is one of the main learning experiences he would keep. The journey of screwing up helped Suh's business and Suh himself develop. For Suh, receiving advice is reflective of wanting to change your reality -- a move Suh is not interested in making. He believes that every mistake LegalZoom made early on contributed to the company's current success. It's an argument for the journey being greater than the destination.
