This is One Good Thing, a weekly column where we tell you about the only nice thing that happened on the internet this week.

In these dark days, no one seems to like much of anything. I certainly don't — the things that used to bring me joy, like naps and minor political victories, now fill me with existential dread.

There are, however, two exceptions:

  1. The movies Paddington and Paddington 2, which star an anthropomorphized bear and are the most wholesome fun cinema has to offer.

  2. Cher's tweets.

For context, here is one of Cher's tweets.

Now, finally, our world's top two celebrities have come together. On Thursday, July 12, 2018, Cher declared that her choice for this year's best performance by a male actor was Paddington himself, presumably in last year's Paddington 2, although we can't be sure.

Ok..... my vote for this years best performance by a Male Actor... IS..... MAY I HAVE THE ENVELOPE PLEASE.....
“PADDINGTON BEAR”?

— Cher (@cher) July 12, 2018

We also cannot be sure which awards show Cher is referring to. Golden Globes? Oscars? Kids' Choice? It doesn't really matter, though. Paddington is the correct choice, no matter the show.

This tweet alone would have been good enough for me. I love Paddington, Cher loves Paddington, I love Cher, they both love me, we're all longtime best friends — great.

But then Paddington responded.

Thank you very much Mrs Cher. I’m so pleased you liked my film. It’s very strange but Mrs Bird now won’t stop singing to me that if she could turn back time, she would find a way.

— Paddington (@paddingtonbear) July 12, 2018

(For the uninitiated, Mrs. Bird is the housekeeper for the Brown family, who took Paddington in as a young bear. She is tough, fair, caring, and ultimately one of Paddington's greatest friends and allies. A legend!)

There are a lot of things to love here. Mrs. Cher! "If I Could Turn Back Time!" Paddington saying "film" instead of "movie!" (He is the only man who should do so, btw.) It's all so good, and pure, and wholly unrelated to the deeply toxic plane bae saga. It's what we as an internet needed.

omg collab

Would watch a show where Paddington and Cher solve cold cases together

Thank you, Paddington Cher. Thank you for everything. Please make a movie together.
