Thanksgiving dinner is high-stakes. It's labor-intensive. And people have a lot of opinions about it. Basically, it's a recipe for disaster.

As home cooks across the country prepare their fridges for this year's feast, stories of Thanksgiving dinners gone wrong are also popping up on Twitter. Take them as funny anecdotes or serious warnings, but please take that Pyrex off the stove and don't forget to defrost the turkey this year.

Thought I’d somehow forgotten to order most of the ingredients I needed for thanksgiving cooking. Turns out my husband just forgot to get any of them out of his trunk 7 hours ago. Botulism here we come!

Sharing my worst kitchen disaster. When I was 19, I decided to learn how to make gnocchi. The recipe called for boiling them. I read it as broiling. I served 100 mostly burnt potato logs for family dinner.

First Thanksgiving, forgot to take the liver, neck and giblets out of the body of the turkey.
Also salt instead of sugar in the pumpkin pies.
Next Thanksgiving was at my SIL.
She set her deck on fire frying the turkey.

I was making stuffed mushrooms and put them in a glass pan to bake them and after 15 minutes in oven I heard this horrible noise come from oven—the glass cooking pan had shattered all to pieces in my oven!! #ThanksgivingFail #FarmRich

I made my husband get a 8 lb turkey brand that Cook's Illustrated recommended. When he brought it home, I freaked out when I couldn't find the legs, wings, or inside. 30 mins into a panicked call to my mom, I looked closer at the packaging. He had gotten an 8 lb *breast.*

thanksgiving 5 years ago everyone in my family got food poisoning from my cousins cake and they all were gushing gysers out of their butts, except me, I had a seizure and peed myself in the rental car before stripping off my shirt and screaming I was melting. It was neg 20°. lol.
