Meta's Quest App Topped Charts On Christmas Day, Despite 'Bricked' Devices https://ift.tt/WqGIRUl Despite a new software update temporarily breaking Quest headsets, Meta's mixed-reality (MR) hardware seems to be gaining popularity with consumers. On Christmas Day, Horizon, the app required to set up Quest headsets became the top downloaded free iPhone app, while Quest product sales are surpassing PlayStation and Xbox in some regions. Over the past few years, Christmas Day has provided Meta's massively expensive MR project with momentary success, as the Horizon app has taken the day's top spot in the Apple App store since 2021 (except for 2022, when the Quest 2's price increased substantially). The app downloads show that this year, Quest 3S and 3 were a popular gift, especially since the 3S brought MR headsets into the $300 price range -- the most reasonable industry price. However, as noted by UploadVR, the Quest headset's single-day success is more meaningful when considering that Amazon sales figures show the Quest 3S being purchased by over 100,000 people in the past month, while the Quest 3 was bought by over 50,000 Amazon shoppers. advertisement advertisement These numbers surpass the total of PlayStation 5 and 5S, and Xbox S and X sales combined on the ecommerce platform. The tech giant's headsets have cost the company billions each quarter -- making investors skeptical about Meta's Reality Labs sector, which split into “Wearables” and “Metaverse” divisions earlier this year in order to quell concerns over Quest hardware costs compared to Meta's Ray-Ban glasses ecosystem costs. Over the summer, Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth stated that the company is “deeply committed to investing in Horizon as the core function of our social, spatial Horizon OS, and high-quality experiences for both mixed reality and mobile.” Unfortunately, despite a boost in sales, Meta's Quest headsets are facing major issues with regard to a software update that “bricked” consumers’ headsets, making them entirely useless. Now, the company is scrambling to resolve the issue. Mobile Marketing via MediaPost.com: mobile https://ift.tt/rytnYU2 January 2, 2025 at 02:44PM
