Meta Launches Paid Verification On Instagram, Facebook In U.S.

After Meta launched its paid verification servicein New Zealand and Australia last month, Meta Verified is now being rolled out to Instagram and Facebook users in the U.S. The service resembles Twitter's now-controversial blue check mark, offering users a range of perks.

According to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Meta Verified costs $11.99 per month on the web and $14.99 per month on mobile devices. “Meta Verified is rolling out in the US today,” Zuckerberg said on Friday. “You can get a badge, proactive impersonation protection and direct access to customer support.”

The blue check mark was previously reserved for lawmakers, actors, musicians, sports athletes, journalists, and other people in the public sector.

Now, all interested users can join a waitlist to sign up for the subscription service. Before being approved, however, users must be at least 18 years old, complete a Meta-run verification process, and provide a government-issued photo ID to confirm their identity.

To qualify, Meta Verified subscribers must also keep their current profile name, photo, username or date of birth. Users who are already verified on Instagram and Facebook will not have to pay for the new subscription.

Alongside the blue check mark, increased privacy protection and direct customer support, verified users will receive exclusive stickers on Facebook and Instagram Stories and Reels, as well as 100 Stars on Facebook for supporting creators.

A company spokesperson has said that Meta is looking into adding additional features to Verified while it continues to test the program./p>
