Get your face ready for extra security with Face ID on your new iPhone XR https://ift.tt/2zayJ7t How do you set up and customize Face ID so you can unlock your iPhone with a look? Like this! Face ID is Apple's name for the biometric facial identity scanner on iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR. With it, you can unlock your iPhone and secure apps. Plus, you can authenticate Apple Pay, the App Store, and iTunes transactions. But you have to set it up first!
How do you set up Face ID on iPhone XS and XR?Setting up Face ID is similar to setting up Touch ID, only easier. iOS will offer to let you set up Face ID as part of your initial iPhone XS or XR setup. But you can also set up Face ID — and reset it — anytime you want.
Now you can start using Face ID on your iPhone XS or XR! How do you turn off Require Attention for Face ID on iPhone XS or XR?By default, your iPhone XS and XR will require you look at it before it will authenticate. If you want to be able to unlock without looking directly at your iPhone XS or XR, for accessibility or convenience reasons, you can turn it off. It's not as secure, but if you want to unlock while your iPhone XS or XR is on the table or you're holding it off to the side, you can. Note: The Face ID system still has to be able to see your eyes, nose, and mouth in order to authenticate you. So, even with attention off, there's a limit to its field of view.
How do you turn on Require Attention for Face ID on iPhone XS and XR?If you want to turn attention mode back on for iPhone XS or XR and enjoy auto-expanding notifications, auto-muffling alarms, and enhanced security, here's how.
How do you reset Face ID on iPhone XS and XR?If you want to switch the person's face that's registered on your iPhone XS or XR or, for whatever reason, you simply want to redo your own Face ID setup, you can! Note: There's no confirmation required — dear Apple, please add a confirmation dialog! — so the moment you tap the button, your Face ID will be gone and you'll have to set it up again to get it back.

Getting a new iPhone XR? Here's how to transfer your Apple Watch! https://ift.tt/2vIU4A6 Just got a new iPhone? Here's how to move your Apple Watch so that you don't lose any data! If you're the lucky owner of a new iPhone XS or XS Max or iPhone XR, you may be wondering what to do about your current Apple Watch. Here's how to move your current wearable to your new iPhone!
Want to find out how you can pair a new watch with an existing iPhone? Here's how to set that up. How to prepare your Apple Watch for moving to a new iPhoneUnlike your iPhone, there's no easy way to manually make a backup of your Apple Watch to iCloud. This is because Apple Watch backups aren't even really backups at all: Your watch borrows most of its data from its paired iPhone, and as such, that data is all saved to your iPhone's iCloud or iTunes backup. Your Watch will regularly sync health and app data it gathers to your iPhone (and, via your phone, iCloud) when you're connected via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. But you can't choose when you'd like to sync that information — it happens in the background — unless you manually unpair your Apple Watch, which will then automatically sync its latest data to your iPhone. When moving an existing Apple Watch to a new iPhone, there are two ways to prepare. iCloud and Automatic SetupSince iOS 11.2, Apple has allowed you to use Automatic Setup to move both your iPhone backup and your Apple Watch to a new iPhone without the unpairing-repairing dance. But to make sure your Apple Watch and iPhone get moved over properly, I recommend the following:
Unpair/repairIf you aren't running iOS 11.2 or later or you're not restoring your new iPhone from your old iPhone's backup, the best way to move your watch is to force a backup. You do this by unpairing your watch from your existing iPhone; follow the instructions in our backup article to do so: How to back up your Apple Watch How to switch your Apple Watch to a new iPhoneDepending on which method you use for setting up your new iPhone, you'll follow slightly different steps for setting up your Apple Watch. If you choose Automatic Setup
If you choose Unpair/repair
How to switch your Apple Watch's LTE account to a new iPhoneIf you've purchased an LTE Apple Watch, you'll likely have a cellular plan for that Apple Watch attached to your iPhone's account. Good news: You shouldn't need to move the plan over when you move to your new iPhone. Just follow the steps above, and you should be all set. That's because your iPhone's phone number and plan stay the same, even if you switch to a new iPhone (with a new SIM card inside it). If you're moving to a new carrier along with your new iPhone, however, you'll need to check in with your new carrier for the easiest way to switch. Most likely, you'll need to do the following:
How to switch your Apple Watch to a new iPhone with no backupIf you're thinking about starting over on your new iPhone from scratch, without a backup, you have two options. Option one: If you don't care about any of your Health data and the like, you can start from scratch on both devices. You'll lose your downloaded apps and your health data, including all saved workouts, GPS routes, heart rate data, and achievements. Option two: If you want your Health data, you can transfer it to a clean-install iPhone and Apple Watch — but only if you use iCloud and iOS 11 or later. To do so, you'll want to have the Health toggle switched on in Settings > iCloud. If you have a lot of Health data, you may need to wait for a good while before everything syncs, so make sure not to erase your old iPhone before this is done. Once your Health information has synced, follow the steps below to set up your Apple Watch:
Troubleshooting tips for moving your Apple WatchRunning into issues moving your Apple Watch over from one device to another? Here are a few suggestions. I can't pair my Apple Watch to my new iPhone! You may still need to disable Activation Lock on your old iPhone. Check to see if your old device is still paired; worst case, try to reset your Apple Watch from the watch itself. How to use Activation Lock on Apple Watch My health data disappeared!Did you back up via iCloud or encrypted iTunes backup, or sync your Health data separately via iCloud? If not, your data hasn't been saved to your backup or your iCloud account. Fixing this requires either making a new backup of your iPhone and watch (and restoring your new iPhone from that backup), using a third-party option like Health Data Importer, or waiting on iCloud to finish backing up your Health data. How to save and back up your Health data on Apple Watch Other problems plague me!Apple itself has a pretty good troubleshooting page for moving your Apple Watch over if you have any other issues. Grab the $10 Aukey Bluetooth FM Transmitter to add audio to your car https://ift.tt/2qb9vQj Stream your favorite music. FM transmitters have been around for quite a while and have improved over the years with the addition of new features. This option from Aukey has Bluetooth built-in, as well as a 3.5mm Aux jack for when you'd rather just plug a phone in. Using coupon code AUKEY2BR during checkout will drop the price down to $9.91, which is the best deal we've seen on this yet. In September we shared a deal when it dropped to around $12, but it has been selling for around $16 since then. Installation is super simple: plug the FM transmitter into the cigarette plug, find an unused FM station in your area, tune both your radio and the transmitter to that station, and connect your phone to it. In addition to being able to play music from your phone through your vehicle's speakers, this can also charge your phone at up to 2.4A by plugging a USB cable into it. How to remove Activation Lock and turn off Find My iPhone on iPhone or iPad https://ift.tt/2vpkQ33 How do you remove Activation Lock from your iPhone or iPad? Here's the answer! Activation Lock is a form of theft protection designed to prevent people from taking, wiping, and restoring your iPhone or iPad without your express permission. It does this by using your Apple ID. Before an iPhone can be activated with a new account, it needs to be removed from yours. If you're selling or giving away your iPhone or iPad yourself, you'll need to sign out of iCloud first. If you're buying or receiving an iPhone or iPad, you'll need to make sure it's not locked to someone else's Apple ID first. If anything goes wrong and you can't get through Activation Lock... well, read on! Update: There have been some reports of iPhone 7 and iPhone 6s showing Activation Lock that can't be removed. If that happens with you, you'll need to contact Apple to have it taken care of. (See below)
How to turn off Find my iPhone on iPhone and iPadActivation Lock is tied to the Find my iPhone (or iPad) app on iOS. If you have your iPhone or iPad in your hands, this is the fast way to turn off Activation Lock. Note: You can also reset your iPhone to erase all content and settings. Do that, and you'll be asked to remove Find my iPhone — and Activation Lock — as part of the process.
You'll then need to sign out of iCloud on the iPhone or iPad if you plan on selling it. How to turn off Activation Lock with AppleIf all else fails, Activation Lock is turned on, and you can't turn it off, you still have an option: Apple. You can either call AppleCare or go to your local Apple Store and present proof of ownership. From there, Apple will confirm that it is indeed your iPhone or iPad and, if satisfied, remove the Activation Lock for you. How to erase an iPhone, iPad, or Mac with the Find My iPhone appYou can no longer simply remotely turn off Find My iPhone. From a separate device or the Find My iPhone app, the only way to remove an iPhone or iPad from Find My iPhone is by erasing it. Here's how to do it using the Find My iPhone app.
Boom. Your iPhone or iPad has now been essentially reset to factory settings. This is a good tool if you've completely lost your device and are totally sure you're never getting it back. It's also a good idea to do if you're selling or giving away your device. The only issue is that, if you did not sign out of iCloud first, then Activation Lock still may be active on the phone. How to erase an iPhone, iPad, or Mac with iCloud.com
The device will now be wiped of its content and settings. Make sure you're sure that you're sure you want to erase your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, because when it says "Erase," it means "Erase." All of it. If you plan on selling your device, note that erasing it via Find My iPhone may not necessarily disable Activation Lock. You'll need to sign out of iCloud on the device to fully disable Activation Lock. Updated October 2018: Updated for the latest version of iOS. Gadget News via iMore - Learn more. New iPhone XR? These are some cool gestures you should know! https://ift.tt/2xHfLSj How do you go Home, switch apps, multitask, invoke Reachability, Siri, Apple Pay, and Accessibility, screenshot, shut down, and reboot on iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR? Here's how to survive in a post Home button world! For a decade the Home button was the center of iPhone navigation. No matter where you were or what you were doing, clicking Home once or twice would bring you exactly where it says it will — Home. Depending on how often or how long you clicked it, the Home button would also do a number of other highly useful things for you, from summoning Siri or Apple Pay to bringing up the app switcher or accessibility menu. It was our escape hatch and convenience key all in one. And now, with iPhone XS, it's gone. To make room for that edge-to-edge display and in recognition that, a decade later, our training wheels can come off, Apple has replaced the Home button with a fluid, gesture-based navigation area. And it's magnificently fun. How do you go to the Home screen on iPhone XS and XR?The Home button is gone but you still need to get Home. From the Lock screen to the Home screen. From additional Home screens or widget screens to the main Home screen. From apps back to the Home screen. Luckily, the Home button has been replaced with a Home gesture and it's incredibly easy to do.
It's almost exactly how you used to bring up Control Center, and it becomes natural very quickly. (More on what happened to Control Center below!) How do you switch between apps on iPhone XS and XR?Previously on iPhone, you had to invoke the fast app switcher to swipe back and forth between apps on iPhone. With iPhone XS, you can do it even faster. You can literally just swipe. There may be a few older apps or games that cause you hiccups, but most of the time it'll just work.
Note, if you stop or get interrupted, the last app you were on becomes the most recent app so you can only swipe back from it, not forward anymore. How do you bring up the multitasking fast app switcher on iPhone XS or XR?If you want to quickly swipe back and forth through multiple apps on iPhone XS or XR, you can do that too. You can't double-click the Home button or use the 3D Touch firm swipe to bring up the multitasking interface and fast app switcher, though. You have to use the new gesture.
It can take a few tries to get right, and you can exaggerate the movements at the cost of speed if you need to at first. After a while, though, the gesture is lightning fast. How do you force quit (kill) apps on iPhone XS and XR?It's so easy. You can force quit all the things with just a simple swipe up in the app switcher tray.
Once you're in killing mode, you can kill as many apps as you want. Just remember, iOS prefers to manage apps for you, so only kill them if they really deserve to die. (Looking at you, battery draining Facebook, Snapchat, and Pokémon Go!) How do you enter Reachability mode on iPhone XS and XR!Unlike the other gestures, you do need to set it up first.
Once set up:
You can even swipe down from the top right of Reachability to access Control Center. How do you access Control Center on iPhone XS and XR?Because a swipe up now invokes the multitasking fast app switcher, Control Center had to from the bottom to the top. And moving Control Center to the top then meant Notification Center had to learn to share. So, now, Notification Center is limited to swiping down from the top left "horn" or the TrueDepth camera module in the center. And Control Center get the right horn as its new home.
Again, you can even swipe down from the top right of Reachability to access Control Center. How do you turn on iPhone XS and XR?

If your iPhone XR just arrived, here's what to do first https://ift.tt/2NYJD7W Just getting started with your new iPhone with Face ID? We've got everything you need to know to set it up. Whether you're brand new to the Apple ecosystem or upgrading for the tenth time, setting up a new iPhone is an exhilarating experience, not unlike waking up on Christmas morning. From the moment you see that first "Hello" to the final step, here's everything you need to know about setting up your new iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR. Note: This guide is for iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR. iPhone and iPad devices with Touch ID have a separate process.
Understanding your optionsYou can set up your new iPhone XS in one of three ways, start fresh, restore from another iPhone, or import content from a non-Apple phone. Here's what each of those options mean in more detail.
How to begin setting up your new iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, or iPhone XRThe moment you turn on your new iPhone for the first time, you'll be greeted with "Hello" in a variety of languages. It's the same whether you're starting from scratch, restoring from another iPhone, or switching from Android.
You'll next be asked if you want to restore from a backup, set up as a new iPhone, or move data from Android. How to restore or transfer your data from another phoneIf you're not going to start fresh with a brand new data-clean device, you're going to want to transfer your data from your old iPhone to your new one, or transfer data from your old Android device to your new iPhone. Here's how. How to restore from an iCloud or iTunes BackupIt's time to decide how you want to transfer your old iPhone's data (if you're starting from scratch, find out how to set up your iPhone as new). You have two choices when restoring your apps and data from another iPhone; iCloud or iTunes. Which one you choose depends on whether you backup your old iPhone in iCloud or by plugging it into your computer and backing it up via iTunes. The key here is to make sure your old iPhone has been backed up first. After you've backed up your old iPhone, select whether you want to restore your new iPhone from iCloud or iTunes. How to transfer data from your old iPhone to your new iPhone How to move data from an Android deviceIf you're switching from an Android-based operating system, first let me welcome you to the Apple family. Apple has a special app just for people switching from Android called Move to iOS and it's available in the Google Play store. Before moving your data to your new iPhone, download Move to iOS on your Android phone. How to switch from Android to iPhone How to set up your iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, or iPhone XR as newIf this is your first iPhone and you don't want to move over your Android data, or if this is your tenth iPhone and you just want to start over fresh, you can set up your iPhone as new.
